Welcome to the blog! I feel like the appropriate place to start is with an article that I previously wrote for DnA: Design and Architecture. Even though this article was written a few years ago, the Ace Hotel NYC is still one of my favorite places. The beautiful design by Roman & Williams has always felt like a second home.
When Francis Anderson approached me to write an article for her site, I immediately knew that the subject would have to be the Ace. This hotel opened right when I first moved from Los Angeles to New York City, so it became kind of an introduction to my new life on the East Coast. I was hired to DJ in their lobby and for two-and-a-half years I would spend every Wednesday night at the Ace Hotel playing to a wide variety of guests. It was incredible to watch as the hotel's popularity grew. I can remember a few nights when there was a line of people wrapped around the block just to get into the lobby for a drink.
I've probably stayed at the Ace Hotel NYC more than any other hotel in the world. Whether it was for various "staycations," or during the time Hurricane Sandy ripped through the city and the Ace was the only place I could find that had electricity, I've definitely spent a decent amount of time at this hotel and I know it intimately.
This article I wrote for DnA on the Ace pretty much speaks for itself. The ideas are still relevant and I'm really proud of the way it turned out.
Enjoy the read!
